BRIEF HISTORY OF BISHOP OKOYE MEMORIAL GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL UKPOR
The school owned and managed by the Daughters of Divine love congregation started officially on the 10th Sepember 2007. It was started as a response o the clarion call by the Ukpor Catholic Community during one of the Parish council meeting that the sisters should help them train their children. As a result the piece of land that housed the school was donated to the sisters by Umueze Osigbu Community of Ukpor, through the motivation of Hon. Samuel Emerah, a.k.a. ‘amaraihegeseokwu’. Sr Amarachukwu Nwaka , started the first building up to the decking level while working at the primary section.
The pioneer sisters were Rev. Sr. Chidi Ihedioha the Principal and Rev. Sr Okoye Paulette the Bursar. We started wih 14 students, 7 Boarders and 7 day students in a rented portion of Mr. & Mrs. Godwin Mkparu’s family bungalow. This housed both the sisters and 7 boarders. We parked into the school premises in our second year September 2008, when the school was made a full boarding school with 54 students. The school was officially opened on 9th May 2009 by his Lordship Most Rev Hillary Paul okeke who on the same day confirmed 42 students. By our third year, we had 152 students, 14 Tutorial staff and six Non-tutorial staff. Presently there are 7 sisters, 28 tutorial and 15 non-tutorial staff with 235 students.

Bishop Okoye Memorial Girl’s Secondary School Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra state is a Girl’s Boarding School with full boarding facilities that you can’t afford to miss. It is owned and managed by the Daughters of Divine Love Congregaion (DDL). The students are being taught well in a conducive environment and your girl child will be academically and morally sound. We have good and dedicated teachers that will bring out all the latent potentials in your girl child thereby realizing the stars within her as the school motto goes. The academic performance of our school attracted the attention of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and they built an ultra modern computer laboratory and equipped it.
